Attention Drivers!
Immediate Care of Oklahoma has five locations in the area, and you can receive a DOT Physical at any of our clinics. While not all primary care doctors are certified to administer this specialized physical, our doctors at our clinic are certified DOT Physical providers. A DOT Physical is needed when you apply for a Commercial Driver’s License and at every renewal of it. You never need an appointment to receive a DOT Physical at any of our clinics.
In general, our staff only needs about thirty minutes to complete a DOT Physical. This can be longer if we are expecting heavy patient volume or patients who have greater acuity than usual. Feel free to call any of our clinics to check what the possible wait time will be.
If you have received a physical in the past, you find that a DOT Physical will share many of the same aspects. Our board-certified doctor will examine you and record your vital signs. These vital signs often include weight, height, blood pressure, lung capacity, and heart rate. To ensure you are medically fit to operate a commercial vehicle, additional tests and screenings may be needed. Our onsite lab can handle most of the tests if they are needed during your physical. In many cases, your entire DOT Physical can be handled at Immediate Care of Oklahoma.
Your DOT Physical will include:
• Urinalysis
• Measurement of your heart rate, weight, and blood pressure
• Screening and testing of your vision, hearing, and lung capacity
• A detailed review of your medical history, including any chronic diseases
The Department of Transportation mandates that in order to operate a commercial vehicle, you need to pass a DOT Physical. This physical must be repeated every two years when you renew your commercial driver’s license. A DOT Physical may be required more often if you suffer from a chronic condition. A doctor may feel your condition requires more stringent monitoring.
Any of our Immediate Care of Oklahoma locations can give you a DOT Physical when applying for a CDL or renewing it. When your physical is finished, and you’ve passed all of the requirements, you’ll leave with a laminated DOT Medical Card and a complete medical examination report.
Most insurance carriers will not pay or cover some of the costs of a DOT Physical. Many businesses in the Oklahoma City area, however, have corporate accounts with us to pay for their employee’s DOT Physical and to facilitate their visits. If you are a local business owner or manager and would like to set up an account with us, call any of our centers today to speak with our friendly staff.
There have been many recent changes in the certification process and more stringent requirements that must be met in order to be certified. Please check with the latest updates from the U.S. Department of Transportation before arriving at our clinic to make the process smoother and get you back safely on the road!
